Treatment Options

At Great Beginnings, we provide a wide range of dental treatment procedures for your child. The flexibility in our services saves time and keeps your total dental care within one practice. Our emphasis is on total preventive care for our patients. Total care begins with regular hygiene visits, regular checkups and continued home oral health routines.

We provide many preventive measures to keep your child’s teeth clean and healthy, including sealants and fluoride treatments. We also educate the parents in early detection of some common problems children may face, including thumb sucking, bruxism and baby bottle tooth decay.

Our primary goal for your child’s dental development is to achieve and maintain optimum oral health through advances in techniques, technologies and by maintaining their scheduled dental exams.

Conventional Treatment

We are pleased to offer a fun facility and the expertise and training of our Great Beginnings staff and pediatric dentists to provide care to our patients. Our staff obtains the cooperation of our child or adolescent patients by using warmth, friendliness, persuasion, humor, charm, gentleness, kindness and understanding. There are several behavior management techniques used by our doctors and pediatric dental staff during a visit with each patient.

These techniques include:

  • Tell-Show-Do
  • Modeling from other patients
  • Positive reinforcement
  • Distraction — music, pictures on the ceiling, movies
  • Helpful tools — mouth pillows, rubber raincoats
  • Patients become the doctor and fix Ellie the Elephant’s (a puppet) teeth
  • iPads

During your new patient visit, we will explore the options that are best for your child.

Hospital Treatment

Complete dental treatment in one visit while your child is asleep has been recommended. This approach is felt the best when you consider the factors of your child’s age, anxiety level, extensive treatment needs and emotional well-being. A short out-patient surgery is an option for a patient with moderate to severe dental needs, acute anxiety reaction or medical history concerns.

Treatment with Sedation

Many children are calm, comfortable and confident in a pediatric dental office. Because pediatric dentists specialize in treating children, they make children feel special. The office is especially designed for children. The Great Beginnings staff members choose to work in a pediatric dental office because they enjoy kids. Sometimes, however, a child feels anxious during treatment. Your child may need more support than a gentle, caring manner to feel comfortable. Nitrous oxide/oxygen is a safe, effective technique to calm a child’s fear of the dental visit.

Our pediatric dental office offers several agents used in conscious sedation. During your new patient visit, we will explore sedation options based on your child’s age, level of anxiety, amount of dental work, and length of the appointment.
